14 Apr A walk through Nice
by Nicola Carloni from Italy
Nice, one of the most fascinating and stunning city of Côte d’Azur. At least once in life you need to stop here and admire the spectacle of this little French city. Wherever you are, you can easily reach the destination. The first time, I went in august with my friends; we picked up a flight on Kayak app and we booked in a second. We flew from Rome to Nice in one and a half hour. We were so excited to see the view from the sky. Ravished and enchanted by the romantic, but at the same time vivacious, atmosphere, I go back with my family, by car this time. The disadvantage was that we have been on the car for six hours but on the other hand, we paid attention to the beautiful panorama we had all around the route. And yes, I will travel again to what I call now “my second house”, in April, to visit my dear friend Nicolas, pure français how he likes describing himself. This time I chose to go by train, because I want to breath and taste every minute of the holiday. I want to get more excited every time the train stops at a train station. And I’m not going to pollute with a public transport.
So, if you really want to be a real traveller, who doesn’t want to lose any experience and feel and live the holiday, follow my 5 gold steps, which will help you in Nice.
WHAT SHOULD YOU PUT IN THE SUITCASE?
Yes, you are right. What to include in the suitcase depends on how many days you decide to stay in Nice. I recommend 4/5 days, because the city is not so big but at the same time there is lot to do. Definitely bring with you a camera, because if you don’t have one, you will repent yourself. Bring with you comfortable but not warm clothes because it is never too much cold (at least bring two elegant outfits for some nights out). Of course, bring sunglasses and swimsuit and a guide of the city.
HOTEL OR APARTMENT?
I am totally for the apartment guys! Firstly, because Nice is a rich city and you will spend enough money and if you choose the apartment you are going to save some money and spend it elsewhere. Secondly, if you choose a typical French apartment, you will have the possibility to experience the French life and live as if you were French. Finally, you are freed from timetables and you can do what you want at any time. But wait, even hotels have some advantages. You can rest and relax more for sure, because you don’t have to think about cleaning or cooking; the hotel will think about it. If you have some doubts or you would like to ask information about the city and its activities, you can ask the concierge. Last but not least, there is free Wi-Fi to connect and be social. The decision is hard to make. If you love being comfortable and don’t want to think about anything, then book an hotel. But you don’t know what you lose.
MUST-SEE TO CAPTURE FOR INSTAGRAM
So much things to see and do in Nice. Starting from the city centre, Nice offers you a huge main street with shops (because I know you love shopping…) and restaurants (…and eating). You can easily spend a whole day walking in the main street and spend money in clothes, souvenirs and food. Moving forward, at the end of the main street, you will reach Place Masséna, the spectacular square of the city. Orange and red facilities, black and white floor: colours are strong and dominant. And in the centre of the square there is a fountain dedicated to Neptune. Turning left, you move into vieux Nice, the historical part of the city: old restaurants, flowers and French music will make you feel in another world. But how to forget the seaside? You should really see the sea shore. The calm of the water is breath-taking. Walking through Promenade des Anglais, you reach the harbour; hike the mountain behind the harbour and finally you can admire the most gorgeous view ever: waterfalls in the middle of the city, from which you can look the city from the top of the mountain.
(FRENCH) FOOD PORN
When we think about France, escargots always come to our minds. So, don’t be afraid and taste it! in Nice, there is a particular recipe for cooking them. Another culinary specialty is la salade niçoise, a salad with tomatoes, eggs and cucumbers (a perfect light dish to give you energy during the day). And because we all deserve sweet in life, you can take your breakfast with typical macarons and take a pause while visiting, eating crêpes.
How can’t you go out in one of the craziest city I’ve ever been to? First of all, you have to be part of a bar crawl, an event in which a group of people meet in a place to drink, make new friends and experience a wild night out. Then, you have to experience the biggest club in the city, the High Club; from Tuesday to Sunday, this disco welcomes young tourists to enjoy the night until 5am. The club is provided of free Wi-Fi (which works perfectly) and air conditioning (never seen before!). Finally, if you are not a wild night animal, the city offers lots of pubs and bars.
So what are you waiting for? Nash on and fly to Nice!
