07 Dec The 7 Wonders of Dubai
At the top of Burj-Khalifa by David Oliveira
Assalamu Alaikum! We all have that one city that we dream of visiting, getting lost or even live in. A city that you know like the back of your hand, even if you were never there. For me that city was the amazing Dubai. Being one of the seven Emirates, Dubai became the business hub of Middle East and one of the most popular cities in the world. “Impossible” becomes “Possible” and the world’s longest, tallest and largest becomes real.
Burj-Khalifa by David Oliveira
1 – Burj Khalifa – World’s Tallest Building – With 828 meters of height, Burj Khalifa it is without any doubt one of the most recognizable buildings on earth. If you are afraid of heights this place is not for you. After queuing (probably more than you expected) you will reach the super-fast elevators, I have never seen the floors going up so quickly. Seconds later you are 456 meters from the ground, on the 124 floor to be precise. From The Observatory Deck, you have a 360º panoramic view. If you like photography as me, the TOD is the perfect place to take a variety of photos, from sunset to nightfall, from the golden sand desert to the bustling FERVER Downtown. Make sure you book the 5pm. tour, you will have plenty of time to take photos and enjoy the unique sunset.
Madinat-Jumeirah by David Oliveira
2 – Madinat Jumeirah – Located near the Burj Al Arab, Madinat it is without a doubt my favorite place in Dubai. Here you will find a modern interpretation of a traditional Arab village full of luxurious hotels, fancy restaurants and trendy bars. Madinat has its own lake where you can take an Abra, a traditional boat. The boats normally take around 8 – 10 people and takes 20 minutes to go around the magnificent Madinat Jumeirah. This place is especially beautiful at night, where you will find the gardens lit and Burj Al Arab flickering in the background. Bahri Bar is the ultimate spot to have drinks.

3 – Dubai Mall – I never thought it was possible to get lost in a shopping mall, but the mother of all shopping malls proved me wrong. With more than 1200 stores, aquarium and underwater zoo, an Olympic-sized ice rink, 2 amusement parks, a genuine dinosaur skeleton and the Emirates A380 experience, a simple 2 hours stroll can easily turn into a 4, 5 or even 6 hour walk in the World’s Largest Shopping Mall. If you are a technology geek like me, this tax-free country will blow your mind … and wallet. Happy shopping!

4 – Burj Al Arab – Symbol of modern Dubai, this stunning architecture marvel is considered the 4th tallest hotel in the world. Seen as the most luxurious hotel in the world, getting in there is not for everyone; you have to have a booking, either in the hotel or restaurants. The minimum amount starts at AED 400 EUR 102 USD 108. Unfortunately, I never had the chance to visit.
5 – Kite Beach – Perfect place for exercise along the path or just tan, this beach offers a wide range of water sports, always with Burj Al Arab in the background. I decided to face my fears and try Kayak. I won’t lie to you and say I wasn’t scared, but a few minutes later and it turned to be one of the greatest experiences of my life. Rowing towards Burj Al Arab or the city with Burj Khalifa faded in the scenery turned to be one of my favorites place to take photos. A simple waterproof iPhone case made my trip to the beach memorable.

6 – Desert Safari – The desert is one of the most unique locations I have ever been to. With golden dunes and scarlet skies, here you have the perception of constant movement caused by the wind. For a truly authentic Arabian Night, camel rides, belly dancers and shisha are available to turn your night into one of the most unforgettable experiences in your life. For the braves one, dune bashing is quite an experience. Get ready for a heck of a ride.
Bahri Bar by David Oliveira
7 – Dubai Fountains – World’s Largest Fountain – between the world’s tallest building and the world’s largest shopping mall, Dubai Fountains are a magical experience in the middle of one of busiest places in the world. For brief minutes, Downtown stops every day to watch the mesmerizing water choreography show that can reach 150 meters of height. For even closer views, the Abra Boat Cruise is available and it is the perfect farewell. It’s the perfect stop before you head back home.
